Brian D. Quintenz is the Head of Policy for a16z crypto, the crypto venture funds of Andreessen Horowitz. He has worked globally to construct appropriately calibrated regulatory crypto frameworks which both protect consumers and respect the innovation of decentralization.

Previously. Quintenz was nominated by both Presidents Obama and Trump to be a Commissioner of the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, was unanimously confirmed by the Senate on August 3, 2017, and was sworn into office on August 15, 2017 for the remainder of a five-year term expiring in April 15, 2020.

His speeches, public comments, and areas of interest at the CFTC have centered around market risk, appropriately calibrated capital standards, FinTech (including Bitcoin futures, DLT, cyber security, and automated trading), and international harmonization of derivatives regulations.

Prior to his appointment, Quintenz was the Founder and Managing Principal of Saeculum Capital Management, LLC where he developed and implemented Saeculum's long term, momentum-based investment process for both traditional discretionary accounts as well as a managed-futures, commodity pool hedge fund.

Prior to forming Saeculum Capital Management in late 2013, Quintenz most recently worked within the Global Institutional Consulting Group at Merrill Lynch as an outside consultant. From 2009 through 2012, he was the Senior Associate for Hill-Townsend Capital, a long-short, bank sector focused hedge fund.

Prior to working in the financial markets, from 2001 through 2007 Quintenz was a senior policy aide in the House of Representatives for Congresswoman Deborah Pryce (OH-15), the then-fourth ranking member of the House leadership.

Quintenz graduated Magna Cum Laude from Duke University with a major in Public Policy Studies and received an MBA from Georgetown McDonough School of Business, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Gamma honors society. He lives in Washington, DC with his children.
