Unit 1: The Grand Palais Éphémère

Why The Grand Palais Éphémère?

Of all the iconic places in Paris, such as the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, or the Le Palais des Congrès de Paris, why did we choose to host NFT Paris at The Grand Palais Éphémère?

Welcome to NFT Paris Weekly! From now till NFT Paris begins, we post every week sharing regular updates on what's up at NFT Paris.

Whether it's a sharing of our speakers, insane project collaborations, or something more about NFT Paris, we won't disappoint!

In today's unit, we share more about The Grand Palais Éphémère, and the rationale behind hosting NFT Paris there. Without further ado, let's get started!

What Is The Grand Palais Éphémère?

The Grand Palais Éphémère is an ad-hoc building set up in June 2021. With the Grand Palais currently under renovations in preparation for the 2024 Summer Olympics, the Grand Palais Éphémère takes its place to host exhibitions.

Costing €40 million to build, it is pretty surprising that The Grand Palais Éphémère only took 3 months to assemble.

After all, being portable is one of The Grand Palais Éphémère's fascinating designs. Yes, it is able to be torn down and rebuilt in another location with ease, fulfilling its goal of sustainable architecture!

Sleek Design

Standing at 20 meters tall, the first distinguishable feature of The Grand Palais Éphémère is its curved semi-circular roof. 44 black arches consist of the framework holding this up… an ingenious architectural design.

Covering about 10,000 sq. meters, the site is able to hold around 9000 people, and that's just counting the inside of the building!

The primarily wooden structure of The Grand Palais Éphémère gives a good contrast of the elements. Plus, this is an eco-friendly and sustainable design!

Picture-Perfect Location

Located at the lush green space of the Champ-de-Mars, against a backdrop of the Eiffel Tower, what better location could we have asked for?

The Grand Palais Éphémère is smacked in the middle of the Champ-de-Mars, a large open-air green space, open to the public.

And the Eiffel Tower is… of course, the Eiffel Tower. Nothing more to be said there.

We also love the Grand Palais Éphémère because it was built for exhibitions and get-togethers, which fits our event perfectly.

Priceless Art

If you've been around, you should know that NFT Paris is big on art. After all, without the art, what would an NFT even be?

The Grand Palais Éphémère is a hotspot for art exhibitions, with events hosted showcasing poetry, history, and art combined.

Even the internal layout of the Grand Palais Éphémère is supposed to give you the feels of the original Grand Palais, but with a 21st century vibe on it.

Something you'll notice straightaway is the statue of Marshal Joseph Joffre, which has deep historical significance all the way back to WWI.

Why We Chose The Grand Palais Éphémère

Ultimately, it came down to three main points.

Art

This building garnered the highest reception for art and culture.

Location

It's a huge space, and the Eiffel Tower in the backdrop is a plus.

Reputation

Big brands such as Chanel and Art Basel have hosted here before, which says a lot about the the creative presence it has.

Alexandre Tsydenkov, founder and event manager of NFT Paris, commented:

“We wanted to get the Grand Palais Ephémère because it’s a mythical place for hosting major Fashion Shows & Art events. Getting the Grand Palais Ephémère to host an NFT Event is a statement for NFTs, allowing major brands to really step a foot in this digital Renaissance.”

And that's a wrap!

Thank you for reading this newsletter, we hope you learnt more about our decision to host NFT Paris at The Grand Palais Éphémère.

Are you now more excited to see this beauty IRL?
