Here's our content in-brief:
Samsung is a South Korean-based electronics corporation headquartered in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon, specializing in manufacturing and selling mobile devices, televisions, and household appliances. Initially founded by the South Korean businessman Lee Byung-chul in 1938 as a grocery trading company, Samsung, which in Korean means "three stars" began selling its first electronic devices in 1969.
At that time, the company entered the electronics industry by selling black-and-white televisions, which they soon began to export overseas. In the 2000s, Samsung started manufacturing and selling the popular Galaxy smartphones series, followed by flat-screen televisions in 2006 and Galaxy Tab tablets in 2010.
Today Samsung is one the world's largest electronic devices manufacturers, selling a wide variety of products including appliances, integrated systems, memory chips, semiconductors, and digital media devices. Being one of the leaders in the electronics industry, Samsung decided to enter the Web3 and metaverse world, a move that allowed the company to reach more customers and keep up with today's marketing trends.
In December 2022 Samsung announced plans to invest $35M in Latin America-based metaverse projects, as a Web3 marketing strategy to reach and connect with younger consumers. Here are some of Samsung's most notable Web3 initiatives:
Other Web3 initiatives from Samsung include its involvement as an early investor in Dapper Labs, a leading NFT brand that founded the Flow blockchain and the sports NFT marketplaces NBA Top Shot and NFL All Day, an investment in the popular hardware wallet company Ledger, and the launch of the Samsung KlaytnPhone in South Korea, based on the Klaytn blockchain. Additionally, Samsung's technology arm and software provider Samsung SDS has developed an enterprise-level blockchain platform in collaboration with the Indian IT and consulting company Tech Mahindra, called Samsung Nexledger.
